Amorim Gives Unhappy Man United Pair Reality Check With January Transfer Hint

Ruben Amorim has reportedly indicated that wantaway players Joshua Zirkzee and Kobbie Mainoo might go in January, but not at Manchester United’s expense.

The Red Devils manager is determined that the team cannot lose out just to appease players.

This season, neither Zirkzee nor Mainoo have started a Premier League game. Mainoo, an academy product, has played 93 minutes since coming back to the team against Burnley in August, compared to the latter’s meager 82 minutes in the division.

Both players will be eager to get more playing time in order to have a chance to represent their countries in the World Cup next summer.

They will need additional time on the field for them t o be called up for the Netherlands and England for the tournament in the US, Canada, and Mexico.

United are expected to lose Bryan Mbeumo, Amad, and Noussair Mazraoui during the Africa Cup of Nations. Amorim does not want to be caught short due to injuries to forwards Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko.

The Portuguese coach could move United up to fourth place with a victory over Everton on Monday. A  significant improvement over the team’s 15th-place result from the previous season.

Amorim Willing To Let Players Leave But Not At The Expense Of The Club

According to The Mirror, Amorim understands why his players may be discontent, but is unwilling to sacrifice United’s progress.

“I was a football player,” he said. “I understand everything, and I want to help my players in every situation. I understand the frustration of some players, seeing the World Cup is there. I know what it means.

“But the first thing is that the club comes first. If I can help the club and the players, I will be happy. If not I have to think about the team.”
