Ruben Amorim has sparked speculation regarding his future as Manchester United manager following the Red Devils shocking Carabao Cup defeat to League Two side, Grimsby Town on Wednesday night.
The fourth tier outfit, who arguably deserved to win the match during regular time after taking a 2-0 lead, defeated United at the first hurdle, sending them crashing out of the competition they last won in 2023.
Harry Maguire and Bryan Mbeumo may have believed they had saved the Red Devils’ blushes by levelling the score, but the Mariners won on penalty shoot-out, leaving United’s season in ruins before it had ever started.
Grimsby delighted with their victory, while United had to deal with yet another crushing setback for the fallen giants, who ended last season on 15th, their lowest league finish since their 1974 relegation.

After the game, a shocked Amorim gave no excuses, and some of his comments suggested that the former Sporting Lisbon manager might be doubting his own role.
What Did Amorim Say Following United’s Loss?
According to The Mirror, he admitted that “something has to change” but maintained that “22 players” would not be involved once more.
The Portuguese manager said: “I think this is a little bit the limit. I think something has to change.
“I think the team and the players spoke really loud today, so that’s it. [Tonight] I think the best team won, the only team that was on the pitch.
