Amorim Claims To Not Know If Key Man United Pair Will Sign New Contracts

Ruben Amorim has reportedly acknowledged that there is still “no decision” about Harry Maguire and Casemiro’s futures as Manchester United approach a potentially tricky contract crossroads.

Uncertainty looms over the two players who have improved under the Portuguese head coach as their present contracts are coming to an end.

Any player whose contract expires on June 30 is allowed to talk with foreign clubs starting in January and even sign a pre-contract agreement, which permits a free transfer in the summer while maintaining eligibility to finish the season. United are all too familiar with this situation.

With Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk, and Trent Alexander-Arnold, Liverpool faced the same danger at this time last year.

In the end, two of them extended their contracts, and Alexander-Arnold left for Real Madrid.

There was a period when supporters might not have been alarmed by Maguire and Casemiro’s possible departures.

In recent seasons, both had challenging times and face harsh criticism. However, under Amorim, each has experienced a subdued return to form, recovering shape, self-assurance, and vigor.

Nevertheless, there is ongoing discussion over whether such extensions are the best long-term course of action.

Amorim Speaks On Maguire, Casemiro Futures At Old Trafford

In his pre-match press conference prior to Newcastle United’s Boxing Day visit to Old Trafford, Amorim was forthright when asked if choices had been made.

“No, there is no decision,” Amorim confirmed to journalists as quoted by Goal.

“We have a lot to do. We need to understand what is going to happen in the next season, because we need to understand if there is European games.

“I’m really happy with them, but I don’t know what is going to happen, so we’ll see what is going to happen until the end of the season, what position we will be, and then we’ll see.”
