Amorim Blasted Man United Star In Squad Meeting Leaving Team-Mates Stunned

Ruben Amorim left Manuel Ugarte out to dry during a Manchester United squad meeting at the end of last season.

Since joining United for £42 million from Paris Saint-Germain in August of last year, the Uruguayan midfielder has struggled thus far.

When Amorim joined the team in last year November, there were expectations that he could bring out the best in Ugarte because the two worked together well at Sporting.

However, Ugarte is still looking for his best performance at Old Trafford a year after Amorim took over.

This season, he has only been limited to three starts, one of which came in the humiliating defeat to Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup second round.

Instead, Casemiro, who will turn 34 in February, is United’s first-choice defensive midfielder.

According to The Athletic, Amorim gave Ugarte a dressing-down during a meeting the day before United’s season-ending game against Aston Villa. Only a few days had passed since the Europa League final defeat to Tottenham in Bilbao when they met at Carrington.

Amorim Slammed Ugarte For Being Too Comfortable

After reprimanding Alejandro Garnacho and informing him that he had to find a “good agent” for the summer transfer window, Amorim made it clear to Ugarte that he believed the midfielder’s work rate had decreased in comparison to their time together in Portugal.

The former PSG star was accused by the boss of becoming overly relaxed at United.

Additionally, the 40-year-old head coach stated that he did not think Ugarte was the same player from their prior time together.

The squad was taken aback by this criticism in their presence, but it also made them realize that their boss expects them to put in a certain amount of effort.

The players reckons Amorim’s evaluation was harsh but generally fair.
