Alexander-Arnold Mocked As He Picks New Name For Back Of Real Madrid Shirt

Trent Alexander-Arnold will wear the No. 12 shirt at Real Madrid as La Liga rules prohibit him from wearing the n0. 66 from his Liverpool days. Additionally, his jersey will have a different name.

After completing a £10 million deal, the 26-year-old England star has formally be announced as a Real Madrid player on Thursday.

Instead of waiting until the conclusion of his contract, Los Blancos paid a price to guarantee the Reds academy product could play for them in the FIFA Club World Cup. Originally, he was expected to join on a free transfer.

Throughout his career with the Premier League champions, Alexander-Arnold has worn the number 66, but that number will not accompany him to Spain following his contentious exit from his boyhood club due to contract expiration.

This is because first-team players are required by La Liga regulations to wear a shirt number between one and 25, with the numbers 13 and 25 reserved especially for goalkeepers.

According to the Daily Star, the defender’s first name, Trent, will appear on his shirt instead of his last name, and he will wear the No. 12 for his new team in the forthcoming season.

Fans poked fun at the decision on social media, with one saying: “Actually “Trent” on the back? Does he thinks he’s Brazilian?”

A second Liverpool fan quipped: “That would have been Ratinho.” While a Chelsea fan added: “I chose the number 12 because I’m half the player Reece James is.”

Another mocked: “It’s clear he’s heading to Real Madrid to build his own brand, no doubt about that but “Alexander-Arnold 66” was iconic. “Trent 12”, no trolling, it’s awful.”
