Agent Reveals He Persuaded Real Madrid To Sign Wirtz

German sports agent Volker Struth has reportedly stated that he attempted to persuade Real Madrid to sign Florian Wirtz prior to the attacking midfielder’s decisive summer transfer to Liverpool.

The Reds pulled off a huge coup when Wirtz rejected offers from Manchester City and Bayern Munich in favour of a $157 million (£116 million) transfer to Anfield from Bayer Leverkusen.

The 22-year-old has become an important member of Arne Slot’s team after a difficult start at Liverpool. Since the beginning of December, he has scored six goals and provided five assists. He missed the match against Nottingham Forest due to injury.

In the summer, Real Madrid hired Xabi Alonso, a former Bayer Leverkusen manager, and there were rumours that the Spaniard wanted to bring Wirtz along. The duo had collaborated effectively in Germany.

Struth Proposed Wirtz Transfer To Florentino Perez

According to Liverpool FC, agent Struth has revealed how he personally contacted Florentino Perez, the president of Real Madrid, to suggest a transfer to the Bernabeu for the Germany talisman.

“During the period when a move to Liverpool or Bayern was being discussed, I called Xabi Alonso and told him: ‘You have to take the lad from Leverkusen with you to Real’,” he said.
