Former Arsenal defender Nacho Monreal believes Tonali would elevate Mikel Arteta’s midfield options beyond every rival across Europe.
The Italian international has been linked with Arsenal for months, although Newcastle remain reluctant to part with him.
Tonali is regarded as one of Newcastle’s most valuable assets and would likely command a substantial transfer fee.
Monreal Believes Arsenal Midfield Could Become Unstoppable
Speaking about the speculation, Monreal claimed Arsenal would possess the strongest midfield unit in world football with Tonali.
The former full-back highlighted the quality already available, particularly after Martin Zubimendi’s arrival and Declan Rice’s influence.
According to Monreal, combining Tonali with Rice and Zubimendi would give Arsenal exceptional balance, control and defensive security.
However, he questioned whether such a move would be practical given the competition for places in midfield, reports Standard.
Monreal suggested Arsenal might eventually need to sacrifice one major midfielder if Tonali were added to the squad.
He also described Rice and Zubimendi as arguably the finest defensive midfielders currently operating at the highest level.
Beyond midfield reinforcements, Arsenal continue monitoring attacking targets as Arteta seeks further improvements ahead of next season.
