Chelsea ‘Push’ For Xabi Alonso’s Dream Summer Transfer As Update Emerges On £127M Star

Chelsea will allegedly try to recruit Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers this summer, as the club has a long-standing interest in the midfielder. Arsenal has also shown an interest in the England international.

Rogers has excelled since moving to Villa from Middlesbrough in January 2024. This has sparked transfer interest from various teams looking to complete a summer deal.

According to The Athletic, Chelsea are set to ‘push’ for a deal this summer, since they have a long-term interest in Rogers. It has also been stated that the Blues’ failure to qualify for the Champions League will not be a major setback.

Chelsea might have a minor edge since recruitment co-director Joe Shields knows the player from their time at Manchester City’s academy.

However, the Blues are not alone in their interest in Rogers. Arsenal are also interested in signing the England player this summer, football London understands.

It has been stated that both Manchester clubs are keeping an eye on the issue. During his time at Middlesbrough, the 23-year-old was coached by United manager Michael Carrick.

Villa are also desperate to maintain a vital player as they prepare to compete in the Champions League again next season.

A 20% sell-on clause to Middlesbrough might also increase their price.

According to CIES Football Observatory, Rogers should get €127-147 million (£109.7-£127 million) this summer. It remains to be seen whether Villa would demand such a premium.

Rogers will be eager to make an impression when he represents England at the World Cup in North America this summer.

The midfielder earned his position in the team by scoring ten goals and providing seven assists in 37 Premier League games last season.

Chelsea will want to strengthen throughout the summer transfer window as they prepare for life under Xabi Alonso. The former Real Madrid manager has signed a four-year contract with Chelsea.

On the last day of the Premier League season, the Blues were unable to qualify for Europe. That might provide them an edge in domestic contests heading into the next season, since they will play fewer games than most of their opponents.
