A goal from Kai Havertz put the Gunners ahead before PSG responded through Ousmane Dembele and eventually triumphed in a penalty shootout.
While praising Arsenal’s organisation and defensive discipline, Lineker insisted the best footballing side ultimately deserved to lift the trophy on the night.
Lineker Names Three Teams Above Arsenal
Speaking on The Rest Is Football podcast, Lineker argued that football should reward creativity, attacking intent, and entertaining styles of play consistently.
According to the former striker, PSG currently belong among Europe’s elite entertainers alongside Barcelona and Bayern Munich.
Lineker acknowledged Arsenal’s defensive strength but suggested they remain outside the group of teams producing the continent’s most attractive football.
He also admitted Mikel Arteta had little choice but to adopt a cautious tactical approach against the reigning European champions recently, reports Goal.
The pundit argued Arsenal’s structure limited PSG’s attacking threat, although he still felt the French side represented football’s more positive philosophy.
Despite Champions League disappointment, Arsenal supporters still celebrated a memorable season after ending a 22-year wait for Premier League glory.
