Barcelona’s pursuit of Julian Alvarez looks to be more serious than many first thought, with new reports indicating that the Catalan club has already made solid steps to get the Argentine forward to Spotify Camp Nou.
According to Mundo Deportivo, sources close to Barcelona have revealed that the club made a formal offer to Atletico Madrid for Alvarez.
The €100 million proposition was submitted straight to Atletico sporting director Mateu Alemany via email.
The development is noteworthy because Atletico previously denied receiving an official bid for the Argentine international.
However, the most recent information indicates that Barcelona’s proposition did exist, even if the issue was later obscured by public declarations and answers from the Madrid-based club.
Barcelona remains hopeful
Barcelona’s stance has remained consistent throughout the affair, since the club does not want to incite conflict with Atletico Madrid or participate in a public argument over the issue.

Instead, the Blaugrana saw the issue as a routine transfer market activity, comparable to the numerous conversations that take place each summer.
Barcelona is making it obvious that their interest in Alvarez is real.
Atletico Madrid will now make its next move. The Spanish capital club may decide whether to reply to the proposition or maintain their present attitude on the player’s future.
What does Alvares want?
For the time being, Alvarez’s ambition is to join Barcelona, and the Argentine is said to have expressed his intentions through his representative, Fernando Hidalgo, who has already spoken with Barcelona authorities about a possible transfer.
On the other hand, Atletico Madrid is in a strong position since Alvarez is under contract until 2030, and his €500 million release clause gives the club entire control over the matter.
As a result, if Atletico does not want to discuss, they are under no duty to.
Nonetheless, the fact that Barcelona has made a formal offer and Alvarez is interested in the transfer suggests that this narrative is unlikely to fade very soon.
