Barcelona looking for a number nine this summer, but Inter forward Lautaro Martinez does not appear to be the solution. Following the departure of Robert Lewandowski, the Catalans are looking for a successor.
Several names have been associated to the Blaugrana, none more so than Julian Alvarez. However, given the difficulty of getting him from Atletico Madrid, Barcelona appears to have moved their focus to Chelsea’s Joao Pedro. Another candidate mentioned has been Inter forward Lautaro Martinez, whom they were interested in some time ago.

Lautaro Martinez dismisses Barcelona rumors
Martinez, on the other hand, has promptly dismissed rumors of Barcelona’s interest. Martinez stated in an interview with Ole, which was cited by Marca, that he had no ambitions to quit Inter.
“I’d certainly want to. My family and I are content; we even own a restaurant, and the kids attend to school and have friends. I find it difficult to picture myself somewhere else. You never know, but if they don’t push me out, I’m staying here.”
Inter President backs Martinez’s statements.
Furthermore, Inter President Giuseppe Marotta has taken steps to put an end to speculation about their captain’s departure. Marotta told 365scores (again reported by Marca) that “there is no truth to the rumours of Lautaro’s transfer to Barcelona.”
Martinez’s move would very certainly have been expensive. The 28-year-old has been a key player for the club for the past eight years. Martinez might also have been a weird fit for Barcelona, considering that he nearly usually plays in a front two for the Nerazzurri and would be expected to lead the line and hold the ball up. Martinez is a distinct sort of forward, while Pedro and Alvarez also differ significantly.
