Michael Carrick Gets Approval As Club Chiefs Search For Next Permanent Boss

The following several weeks are critical in Michael Carrick’s managing career. The Manchester United icon has pleased much more than even his most ardent supporters could have predicted since taking over the Red Devils on a temporary basis in January.

The 44-year-old took over for Ruben Amorim on an interim basis at the beginning of the year, when the team was suffering. He has taken them to a top-four finish in the Premier League with just four games remaining, making Champions League qualifying increasingly plausible.

Despite his early success, Carrick’s future at Old Trafford remains uncertain, since United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has yet to offer him a long-term contract. It is widely known that club officials have began the search for a new permanent manager, with Carrick also being considered.

Managerial search is ongoing.

United’s chief executive, Omar Berrada, and director of football, Jason Wilcox, are actively looking for applicants for the managerial role. According to The Athletic, the duo are driving the hunt for a new United manager and will submit their suggestion to Sir Jim at the end of the season.

It is said that they are presently doing background checks on the potential contenders, raising questions over whether Carrick will continue on after this campaign. Carrick, who remains a possibility, spoke with Ratcliffe on the United co-owner’s visit to Carrington last week as part of the ongoing decision-making process for his future.

Carrick commented on the visit: “He came in, we talked, and we had a cup of tea. A casual conversation, to be honest, but it was good to have him offer his support. That was it. It was really informal, but it was good to meet him.”

“But I think now they are really on the right track with Michael. I know him from my Man United days, I know how he operates and the lads are doing really well under him.”
