Manchester City Leapfrog Arsenal In Premier League Title Race

Manchester City completed their frightening late-season ascent to the Premier League top spot on Wednesday, defeating Burnley 1-0 courtesy to Erling Haaland’s early strike, ending Arsenal’s 200-day reign. Burnley, owned by Americans, was relegated after just one season back in the top division. Haaland sprinted onto Jeremy Doku’s ball in the fifth minute to score his league-high 24th goal of the season, allowing City to build on its 2-1 victory against Arsenal on Sunday, which many saw as transforming Pep Guardiola’s club into the championship favourite.

However, with goal difference possibly a factor, City may rue not putting more past Burnley at Turf Moor, According To Sport Ndtv.

Winning by one goal matched City and Arsenal on points (70) and goal difference (37). City leads solely because it has scored more goals (66 to Arsenal’s 63).

Haaland and Rayan Cherki both hit the goal frame, while Nico O’Reilly had a weak shot saved with the goal at his mercy as City put everything at Burnley in an attempt to score goals.

City was nine points behind Arsenal after drawing with West Ham on March 14. Three consecutive victories, paired with back-to-back losses for Arsenal, have turned the championship battle on its head.

In the other match on Wednesday, Leeds scored in the eighth minute of stoppage time to draw 2-2 against Bournemouth, moving them nine points clear of relegation.

Sean Longstaff’s late equalizer denied Bournemouth a win that would have moved them to sixth place, four points outside the Champions League qualification spots.
