Makelele carved his mark into the history of both clubs at the start of their respective quests to become European champions. He was at Chelsea from 2003 to 2008, when we established ourselves as the best team in England and, probably, Europe.
His final game for the Blues was that tragic night in Moscow, when we were so close to winning the Champions League for the first time. But the seeds had been planted, and grandeur awaited us in Munich four years later.

Makelele was already working for PSG as Carlo Ancelotti’s assistant. He had completed his playing career in the French capital by assisting Les-Rouge-et-Blue in turning a corner, attaining stability on the pitch and quickly benefiting from new ownership off it. Domestic dominance followed, and in May of last year, the club earned its first and highly coveted Champions League trophy.
‘Paris, like Chelsea, has wanted this trophy for a long time,’ Makelele tells us in the West Stand at Stamford Bridge, Reported By Chelsea News.
It was a similar journey. When I joined Chelsea, we formed a new team with a new history, but larger. In Paris, we did the same. Two capitals. Both clubs have learned a lot from the Champions League.
‘It’s fantastic to have been a part of such large enterprises. This is what we enjoy about football. You truly feel it. I feel proud because my name will always indicate that I was there.
We remind Makelele of their first meeting, which took place in September 2004 as part of the Champions League group stage. Maka began in midfield for Jose Mourinho’s Blues, who won comfortably 3-0 at the Parc des Princes.
