After the match, Rodri questioned the neutrality of match officials during a post-game interview, which prompted an investigation from The Football Association.
Officials claimed the midfielder’s remarks implied potential bias from the referee and therefore breached FA conduct rules.
The governing body confirmed Rodri admitted the charge during the disciplinary process that followed the controversial interview.
Following a hearing, an independent regulatory commission decided to fine the Spain international £80,000.
However, the panel ruled that the comments did not meet the threshold required for a playing suspension.
Guardiola Relieved as Rodri Remains Available
The decision means Rodri will remain available for selection by Pep Guardiola in Manchester City’s upcoming matches.
The midfielder had criticised referee Robert Jones after the draw against Tottenham earlier this season, reports
During the interview, Rodri suggested City’s success might influence perceptions surrounding the club during officiating decisions.
Those remarks quickly attracted attention and led to formal charges being filed by the Football Association, reports Hayters.
Despite the fine, City avoided a major setback because Rodri will still be eligible to feature in upcoming fixtures.
He is expected to play in City’s next league match against West Ham United.
The midfielder should also be available for the upcoming EFL Cup Final clash against Arsenal later this month.
