Former Arsenal forward Alan Smith feels there is ‘every potential’ that Gunners youngster Myles Lewis-Skelly will leave this summer. The 19-year-old established himself as a regular in Mikel Arteta’s lineup last season, but has struggled to find minutes this season.
The dynamic midfielder has spent the majority of his senior career at left-back, and he has even represented England under Thomas Tuchel. The German coach was full of admiration for the youthful sensation.
“Amazing player. Amazing personality,” Tuchel said in March 2025. “He came into camp and demonstrated right away that falling in love with him is perfectly fine. It’s well deserved.

Lewis-Skelly made 42 appearances for Arsenal last season, drawing similarities to Wayne Rooney. After excelling against Real Madrid last year, former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher described the teenager as ‘spectacular at full-back’ with ‘football arrogance’ comparable to Rooney and England teammate Jude Bellingham.
However this summer, Arsenal signed defender Pierio Hincapie on loan, giving Riccardo Calafiori more depth on the left side of defence. Lewis-Skelly made only one Premier League start in 2025/26, but he has been a regular in Europe.
Nonetheless, with his chances of being called up for the England World Cup looking remote, Smith believes the teenage prodigy will be seeking for a move this summer.
“This season has been extremely difficult for Myles Lewis-Skelly, hasn’t it?” Smith told BestBettingSites that he is now behind two other players for the left-back position.
If he gets the chance, I’d like to see him in middle. That is his position. Just see how he does there. He isn’t the finest defender, so he’s better suited to midfield. He’s incredibly imaginative.
