Former Chelsea Premier League Winner Sacked As Manager After 8-0 Victory

Filipe Luis  former Chelsea and Atletico Madrid full-back, has been sacked as Flamengo manager, just hours after the team won 8-0.

The 40-year-old was named Flamengo manager in September 2024 and has had an incredibly successful first 14 months in command of the Brazilian club, According To Metro News.

His one complete season in charge resulted in Serie A and Copa Libertadores titles, as well as the Copa do Brasil, Brazilian Super Cup, and Campeonato Carioca.

The Flamengo side received a lot of attention during the Club World Cup last summer, and they won their group, defeating Chelsea along the way.

A 4-2 defeat to Bayern Munich in the round of 16 was not a disaster, and Luis was still well respected when he signed a contract extension in December.

However, things have soured considerably since then, and the 44-cap Brazil international has been let go barely 10 weeks after signing the contract.

Surprisingly, his dismissal came just after Madureira’s 8-0 triumph in the Campeonato Carioca.

Clube de Regatas do Flamengo announced that Filipe Luís will no longer lead the professional team effective Tuesday (3).

Ivan Palanco (assistant coach) and Diogo Linhares (physical trainer) will also leave the club with him.

Flamengo expresses gratitude to former player and coach Filipe Luís for their contributions to the team’s success. The club wishes him success and good luck as he continues his professional career.

Luis has suffered from a poor start to the season, with defeats in the Copa do Brasil, the Recopa Sudamericana, and losses to lower-league sides in the Campeonato Carioca.

It is early in the Serie A season, but Flamengo has only four points from their first three games.
