Merson Makes Concerning Chelsea Prediction After Leeds Collapse

Paul Merson is reportedly worried that Chelsea would have a difficult time making it to the Champions League after Liam Rosenior’s team blew a two-goal lead against Leeds United.

Cole Palmer’s penalty doubled the Blues’ lead at Stamford Bridge, putting them in a position to catch up and secure a top five spot in the Premier League.

Joao Pedro, who was in excellent form, had put Rosenior’s team ahead in the first half, but Chelsea spoiled all of their hard work in a wild six-minute burst following the interval.

Following an outrageous defensive blunder that allowed Noah Okafor bundle in an equalizer that might prove pivotal in Leeds’ battle to avoid relegation, Lukas Nmecha’s penalty kick pulled the team back into the match.

Even more concerning for Merson, the former England international feels that Chelsea’s current side are still much too inexperienced and fragile under any kind of pressure.

What Merson Said After Chelsea Blew A 2-Goal Lead

He told Sky Sports as reported by the Metro: “Chelsea haven’t changed from when Maresca was there. They can’t put a 90 minute performance together.

“They were brilliant first half, they were like the Harlem Globe Trotters. Palmer, Santos, Enzo Fernandez, Pedro, the movement with Estevao.

“Second half out again brilliant then all of a sudden that happened. Haven’t got that experience when it goes 2-1 and then 2-2 the next 15 minutes were wasted.

“They haven’t got anyone to grab the game or tell the players to calm down and we’ll get another chance. They got one and it fell to Palmer and side footed it over the bar it happens to the best.

“Chelsea have got some very, very difficult fixutres after the next one. It’s going to be a real big fight for them. If Chelsea can get in the Champions League positions after the run-in they’ve got I’ll hold by hands up and say fair play
