Slot Confirms Isak Out For ‘Couple Of Months’ Following Reckless Tackle

Liverpool head coach, Arne Slot has reportedly confirmed that Alexander Isak will be out injured for a couple of months following a reckless challenge by Tottenham Hotspur defender, Micky van de Ven.

Isak scored for the Reds in a 2-1 victory over Spurs, but he suffered a fracture to his left leg during Van de Ven’s sliding tackle.

Unlike Xavi Simons, who was sent off in the first half after catching Virgil van Dijk on the calf with his studs, Van de Ven was not disciplined for the tackle.

The Sweden international had an operation on what Liverpool described as “an ankle injury that included a fibula fracture”.

Isak Out For A While

“It’s going to be a long injury, for a couple of months,” said Slot as quoted by BBC. “It’s a big disappointment for him and, as a result, for us.”

On Van de Van’s challenge, he added: “This was for me a reckless challenge. The tackle of Van de Ven – if you make that tackle 10 times – I think 10 times there is a serious chance that a player gets a serious injury.”

As Liverpool approach the holiday season and a home game against Wolves on Saturday, Isak’s injury adds to their list of unavailability.

Conor Bradley and Cody Gakpo were classified as “50-50,” and Mohamed Salah, who is at the Africa Cup of Nations, and Dominik Szoboszlai, who is suspended, will also be absent from Slot’s squad in the weekend.
