Ferdinand Claims Amorim Playing ‘Russian Roulette’ With Man United Job

Rio Ferdinand reportedly believes Ruben Amorim is playing “Russian Roulette with his job” because he won’t change at Manchester United, which is suddenly generating results following a period of instability.

The Portuguese manager, who oversaw their worst Premier League season ever last season, has been in the public eye for the most of the year he has been in his position.

Amorim’s 3-4-3 system, which he has refused to stray from despite the number of losses, has been a recurring topic of discussion.

When his system was identified as the main problem during United’s dismal run, the former Sporting Lisbon manager defended it, even going so far as to say that United should sack him if they wish to see a different style of play.

Ferdinand Admire Amorim’s Loyalty To His System

According to The Mirror, Ferdinand acknowledges that Amorim’s devotion to his convictions is admirable, but he also acknowledges that things could have gone terribly wrong if he hadn’t started seeing results.

“I admire it to a certain extent, but, like I said, I think he is playing Russian Roulette with his job. I don’t think he’s changed drastically, he’s just tweaked,” Ferdinand said.

“That’s what a lot of fans were asking for. Just tweak what you’ve got. Maybe don’t be so much on the front foot, maybe be a bit more conservative at times when we haven’t got the ball.

“We might look back in six months and, say Man United finish in the Champions League or something like that, he’ll probably sit there confidently and go, ‘Well, if I did change, I probably would be out of a job because I have been doing things that are alien to me’.”
