Mohamed Salah failed to square the ball to Florian Wirtz with the goal at his mercy in Liverpool’s 5-1 win away at Frankfurt. Thereby continuing the German’s goalless start to life at Anfield.
The £116 million summer acquisition was back in his home country as the Reds comprehensively recorded a Champions League victory. Having shuffled his deck, Arne Slot benched Salah and then introduced him during the second half.
Wirtz contributed to Liverpool’s decisive lead from the beginning. Salah was obviously eager to make an impression after being brought into the game. He opened up his body for a shot on goal down the right flank.
He had the option to pass to Wirtz, who was only eight yards away, but the Egyptian decided to take the shot himself. Wirtz threw his arms up in an angry gesture after Michael Zetterer’s save, expressing his rage at his teammate.
This is pure wickedness from Salah 😭😭😭😭.

With pressure increasing on both Salah and Wirtz, each player will have their own reasons for wanting to score.
The German set a British record when he joined Anfield from Bayer Leverkusen. However, he hasn’t scored or assisted since his debut until Wednesday night.
In contrast, Salah has not looked like the player who was so effective the previous season. The 33-year-old attacker, who recently signed a new contract, must demonstrate that he can perform at the highest level going forward.
He hasn’t scored since mid-September and has only scored three goals across all competitions.
