Arsenal maintained their perfect record in the UEFA Champions League this season, defeating Atletico Madrid 4-0.
In the second half, the Gunners again relied on their set piece prowess, with Gabriel Magalhaes heading home before Gabriel Martinelli guided home a wonderful second at Emirates Stadium.
Under-fire striker Viktor Gyokeres scored a late double, his first European goals since coming from Sporting CP in the summer, but Arsenal’s defensive strength once again shone through. Reported on X.
Mikel Arteta’s side has only conceded three goals in all competitions in 2025/26, as part of a nine-game unbeaten run, and they effectively resisted Atletico’s attack in North London.

Arsenal’s status as a Set Piece FC was enhanced when Gabriel scored off a Declan Rice free-kick, and Gyokeres’ second goal came from a corner, making the Gunners the first team in Europe’s top five leagues this season to score ten goals from set pieces in any competition.
However, their record in the UCL is even more impressive, as they return to Europe’s top stage at the start of the 2023/24 season.
Arsenal has now won all nine of its home group stage/league phase games by an aggregate score of 27-0, following three consecutive victories against Athletic Club, Olympiakos, and Atletico at the start of 2025/26.
That number also makes Arteta’s team the first in UCL history to keep a clean sheet in nine consecutive home opening phase matches.
Arsenal’s next Premier League match comes at home against Crystal Palace on October 26 – they lead the standings by three points going into the weekend – followed by a trip to Slavia Prague on November 4.
