Real Madrid are reportedly set to part ways with Antonio Rudiger at the end of the 2025–26 season following a loss of form and fitness concerns under Xabi Alonso.
The 32-year-old joined Los Blancos on a free transfer from Chelsea in 2022 and quickly became a key figure, making over 150 appearances and helping the club win eight trophies.
However, his time at the Bernabeu appears to be nearing an end, reports Daily Mail.
According to BILD, Rudiger’s contract will not be renewed when it expires next summer, as Alonso has doubts about his consistency and durability.
The defender is currently sidelined with a thigh injury and is not expected to return until November.
Eder Militao and Dean Huijsen have formed a solid defensive partnership in Rudiger’s absence, further limiting his chances of reclaiming a starting spot.
With a salary exceeding €10 million per season, Real view his wages as excessive for a backup player.
Rudiger and Bellingham Clash During Training
Reports of his imminent departure come months after a training ground altercation with teammate Jude Bellingham.
Spanish outlet El Chiringuito revealed tensions flared during a small-sided game when Rudiger made a tough challenge on the England star.
Bellingham reportedly reacted angrily before teammates intervened to calm the situation.
The dispute was later resolved, but it added to the turbulence of a campaign in which Real finished second in La Liga and exited the Champions League in the quarter-finals.
Rudiger, who has earned 81 international caps for Germany, has previously played for Stuttgart, Roma, and Chelsea.
Despite the drama, Real Madrid remain top of La Liga after winning seven of their opening eight matches and will face Getafe next before hosting Juventus in the Champions League.
