Liverpool Face Potential Dressing Room Tensions Over Isak–Ekitike Pairing

Liverpool’s summer spending spree continues with interest in Alexander Isak, despite recently signing French forward Hugo Ekitike in a £79 million blockbuster deal.

The Reds have already spent £268 million in this transfer window, but landing Isak from Newcastle could push their total beyond £400 million.

Newcastle reportedly value Isak between £120m and £150m, and despite stating he’s not for sale, the player appears keen on a Liverpool move.

However, Shaun Wright-Phillips warns that signing both Isak and Ekitike could cause squad disharmony due to overlapping roles and potential competition for minutes.

Wright-Phillips expressed concern that only one of the two strikers can realistically lead the line, potentially causing ego clashes in the squad.

Can Isak And Ekitike Coexist At Anfield?

The former Chelsea winger suggests Ekitike may struggle if benched, raising questions about how he might react given his high-profile arrival this summer.

Liverpool’s attacking depth already includes stars like Mohamed Salah, Cody Gakpo, Dominik Szoboszlai and £100m man Florian Wirtz — making minutes hard to guarantee.

Ekitike scored 22 goals in Germany last season, while Isak has netted 52 times over two years — both expect to start, reports Mirror.

The Reds initially pursued Isak but pivoted to Ekitike after Newcastle declined to negotiate, yet Isak’s stance may be changing.

If Liverpool return with a better offer and Newcastle budge, the club could have a striker dilemma on their hands.
