Chelsea secured a 2-0 victory in New Jersey, reaching the tournament final where they’ll face either Real Madrid or Paris Saint-Germain.
New signing Joao Pedro was the standout performer, scoring both goals in sweltering heat that required two cooling breaks during play.
Despite the positive result, tempers flared when Jackson ignored Palmer’s better-positioned run and fired wide into the sidenetting instead.
Palmer, clearly angered by the selfish play, lashed out verbally at Jackson before angrily kicking the goalpost in visible frustration.
Though mostly quiet during the game, Palmer later had a scoring opportunity himself, but his shot was blocked by a Fluminense defender.
The English international will hope for a stronger showing in Sunday’s final, aiming to make his mark on Chelsea’s title bid, reports Express.
Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca downplayed the incident, praising his players’ composure and tactical adjustment throughout the tough physical conditions in New Jersey.
“We are proud to be in the final,” Maresca said. “The team handled the heat and intensity brilliantly under pressure.”
He added, “The players responded with professionalism and energy, and reaching the final is a proud moment for this group.”
