Liverpool have confirmed the appointment of Giovanni van Bronkhorst as an assistant manager alongside new faces to join Arne Slot’s coaching staff ahead of 2025-26.
The club made the announcement on their official website saying: “Liverpool FC can confirm a number of new appointments and departures within Arne Slot’s coaching staff ahead of 2025-26.
“Former Netherlands international and captain Giovanni van Bronckhorst joins the Premier League champions in the position of assistant coach, subject to receiving a visa.”
Van Bronckhorst Career As A Player And Manager
During his playing career, which included stints with Feyenoord, Glasgow Rangers, Arsenal, and Barcelona, Van Bronckhorst won numerous major trophies.

Following retirement as a player in 2010 after his country reached the FIFA World Cup final, he began his career as an assistant head coach at Feyenoord
The 50-year-old went on to lead the Dutch team himself from 2015 to 2019, and during his tenure at Feyenoord, the team won two KNVB Beker titles and the Eredivisie title in 2016–17.
After that, Van Bronckhorst took over at Guangzhou R&F in China, Rangers, where he guided the team to the 2021–22 Europa League final and a Scottish Cup victory, and finally Besiktas where he won the Turkish Super League, before leaving the club in late 2024.
The club also confirmed that Xavi Valero will return to the club as the new head coach of first-team goalkeeping department.
“Xavi Valero returns to Liverpool as the new head of first-team goalkeeper coaching, moving back to Merseyside after spending the past seven years with West Ham United.
“The Spaniard first joined the Reds under Rafael Benitez in 2007 and would remain alongside his compatriot as he subsequently took charge of Internazionale, Chelsea, Napoli and Real Madrid.
“After a spell with Hebei China Fortune, Valero linked up with West Ham during the summer of 2018.
“Bidding farewell to the Reds’ goalkeeping department ahead of the next campaign are both Fabian Otte and Claudio Taffarel.”
