Real Madrid Star Discharged From The Hospital But Remains A Doubt For Club World Cup Clash

Real Madrid has verified that Kylian Mbappe has been freed from the hospital.

The striker was admitted to the hospital on Thursday due to acute gastroenteritis.

In yesterday’s 1-1 tie with Al Hilal, Gonzalo García replaced the Frenchman and scored the only goal for Los Blancos.

Real Madrid confirmed the news in a brief statement, which read: “Our player Kylian Mbappé has acute gastroenteritis and has been hospitalised for various tests and treatment.”

An update was given hours later, stating that “Mbappe was discharged from the hospital this afternoon and has returned to the Real Madrid training camp.”

“Mbappe will continue receiving specific medical treatment and will gradully return to team activity.”

The NHS defines gastroenteritis as a common stomach bug that causes diarrhoea and vomiting and is frequently associated with food poisoning or norovirus. It usually lasts less than a week and may be accompanied by fever and dehydration.

Head coach Xabi Alonso said before of the Al Hilal encounter that Mbappe had been sick since landing in the United States and had missed Tuesday’s training session.

He stated, “Kylian was feeling slightly better [on Wednesday] morning, but not enough. It’s quite hot, therefore it’s best he didn’t train. However, we shall wait until the last moment. Tomorrow morning, we shall make a decision.”

The match was not a great start to Alonso’s return to Real Madrid as manager, 11 years after he played for the club. He will be hoping for Mbappe’s fast comeback, having confirmed pre-match that he would be a vital source of goals for the team this season.

“He is a dynamic striker who does not play in a specific position or box.
